Historic Bank of Italy Building

Paso Robles, CA

Market: Historic

Architect: BAR Architects

This historic bank building was built in 1921 and is located in downtown Paso Robles, CA, an area heavily damaged by the 2003 San Simeon Earthquake. The unreinforced masonry building has an existing subpar retrofit that was completed in the early 1990’s but leaves the third floor vulnerable during the next seismic event. FTF was hired to perform a seismic evaluation of the existing structure and determine the structural upgrades needed for changing the occupancy of the building and creating useable roof top space. A site visit and analysis were performed to determine the existing inefficiencies along with conceptual designs of three retrofit options and strengthening of the existing roof structure.
