Potrero Power Station Groundbreaking Ceremony

We proudly announce that we broke ground on the first of several residential buildings approved for the S.F. Power Station Development this October. FTF is the Engineer of Record for the newly named Sophie Maxwell Building which will be an 8-story, 85-foot-tall reinforced concrete building with 98 affordable housing units, retail, and a courtyard. The building will provide a mix of affordable studios and one-bedroom apartments for San Francisco’s workforce. We expect to complete construction by the third quarter of 2025 for tenant occupancy. The future Sophie Maxwell Building is a part of the master plan for the formerly industrial waterfront.

Recently Completed: Los Gatos Highland Residence

The new construction of this modern home set in the hills above Silicon Valley highlights exposed cantilevered concrete walls and warm wood finishes. A unique element of this house was the design of a second-floor interior glass bridge. Working collaboratively with Mark Horton Architects, we designed the bridge and large skylights above to bring light to the partially buried first-floor level. FTF placed concrete shear walls and prominent steel collectors to allow the architect to celebrate the views with full glass walls.

In Construction: Bakersfield College Agricultural Sciences Building

We are excited for construction to begin this month for Bakersfield College‘s Agricultural Sciences Building. FTF is providing complete structural engineering design and construction administration services for this award-winning, state-of-the-art, all-electric science facility, which is expected to exceed California Energy Code requirements by 17% to 22% while redefining the Bakersfield Campus. The project involves new construction of a nearly 50,000-square-foot, three-story rigid steel frame building on a sloping site.

FTF Welcomes William Korger

We are excited to welcome Will Korger, S.E., LEED AP, to the FTF team! Will has joined our San Francisco office as a Senior Associate. He is a California State Polytechnic University graduate and holds a BS in Civil Engineering (Summa Cum Laude) with an Emphasis in Structures and a Minor in Business. He creates value for clients by being proactive in the conceptual and proposal phases of a project. Actual value is not just designing the most efficient beam or smallest anchor; it is discussing and understanding the architect’s and owner’s priorities from the beginning to develop early structural design alternatives.
